Statement on Asian American and Pacific Islander Attacks

The deadly shootings Tuesday night outside of Atlanta are truly reprehensible, and we mourn with the victims and their families. Most disturbing is the racist nature of the crimes, as six of the eight victims are Asian American women. As an anti-racist organization, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving stands in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in condemning these murders. The recent spike in crimes against Asian Americans is a painful reminder of how much work remains to be done.  We must address our nation’s history of discrimination and violence against non-white racial and ethnic groups; only then, can we ensure the unalienable rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness for every American.
