Oz Griebel Appointed to Board of Directors of Hartford Foundation for Public Giving

Oz Griebel has been appointed to serve on the volunteer board of directors of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving – the community foundation for the 29-town Greater Hartford region. The appointment was made by the MetroHartford Alliance, one of the Foundation's six outside appointing authorities. He succeeds Bonnie Malley, executive vice president and chief financial officer of The Phoenix Companies, Inc., who completed ten years on the board, the last two years as vice chair.

In other board appointments, Yvette Meléndez of Glastonbury was re-elected as chair, JoAnn Price of Avon was elected vice chair and Robert B. Goldfarb of West Hartford was re-elected treasurer. Ms. Meléndez, who joined the Board in 2005, is vice president for government and community alliances for Hartford Healthcare and Hartford Hospital. Ms. Price, who joined the Board in 2010, is co-founder and managing partner of Fairview Capital Partners. Mr. Goldfarb, who joined the board in 2007, is president of HRW Resources, Inc.

Oz Griebel is president and chief executive officer of the MetroHartford Alliance, the region’s economic development leader and the city’s Chamber of Commerce. Griebel leads the Alliance’s efforts to ensure that the Hartford Region competes aggressively and successfully for jobs, capital and talent so that it continues to be a place for all people to live, play, work, start and grow a business, and raise a family.

Prior to taking his position at MetroHartford Alliance in 2001, Griebel served as a director and president and chief operating officer of MacDermid, Inc., an international specialty chemicals company then headquartered in Waterbury, Connecticut and traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Griebel worked for over 22 years with the then BankBoston Corporation in various finance, legal, marketing, and operations positions, concluding his service as president of the bank’s businesses in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts from 1993 through 1999. Griebel also served as a director of Tallan, a Glastonbury based e-commerce company that was acquired by CMGI in 2000, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of World Business Capital, which provides financing to small businesses in international markets.

Griebel has served on a variety of nonprofit boards and commissions throughout his career. He currently serves on the boards of Hartford Hospital, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, the Connecticut Science Center and Grace Academy. Previously, Griebel served on the boards of Junior Achievement of Central Connecticut (chairman), The Mark Twain House, Northwest Catholic High School (chairman), Riverfront Recapture (chairman), the University of Hartford, the Wadsworth Atheneum, the World Affairs Council, and Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Griebel received an A.B. from Dartmouth College (1971) and a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University School of Law (1977).
