Hartford Foundation Announces More Than $345,000 in Grants in Fourth Round of Phase Two Grants from COVID-19 Response Fund
Grants include support for East Hartford and Windsor Locks Public Schools
In March, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving launched the COVID-19 Response Fund to rapidly deploy resources to support the residents who are most significantly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The Fund has transitioned from emergency response to ensure nonprofit staff and clients are prepared and safe during the re-opening phase of the pandemic. Grant awards support re-opening costs that nonprofits expect to incur over a six-month grant period and must be in alignment with state and federal public health guidelines for safely re-opening facilities. The grants will cover the cost of personal protective equipment (PPE), cleaning, small COVID-related infrastructure accommodations, technology to support virtual services and/or remote staff, staff health screenings and other needs.
"While we are all optimistic about the approval and distribution of an effective COVID-19 vaccine, we know we have a long way to go before we have turned corner on the pandemic,” said Hartford Foundation President Jay Williams. “As we are experiencing the second wave of infections in our communities, we know things may worsen before they get better. We remain committed to ensuring that the Hartford Foundation COVID-19 Response Fund can provide nonprofits with the resources they need to protect their staff and safely support the residents they serve. This latest round of grants from the Fund includes support for social service providers, education and youth development organizations, senior organizations and two local school districts to ensure that they can continue to support residents who are most severely impacted by this prolonged crisis.”
A total of $345,303 in grants comprise the fourth round of Phase Two of the COVID-19 Response Fund and have been awarded to 24 community-based organizations that provide critical services. To date, the Fund has awarded a total of $9,272,592 across the Hartford region.
