Andover Public Library Receives Grant from the Yeomans Family Fund at the Hartford Foundation

Alice Yeomans Moe Campbell lived in Andover most her life and was a lifelong supporter of Andover organizations.  A graduate of Wellesley and Smith colleges, she worked as a caseworker, a supervisor at the state Department of Children and Families and was a professor at the University of Connecticut school of Social Work. Moe Campbell continued to remain active as a member of the Arbors Retirement Community in Manchester until her passing in August 2000 at the age of 91. Before her passing, Moe Campbell announced her plan to donate funds to the Andover Public Library to create a facility within the library devoted to the history of Andover and the surrounding region.

Moe Campbell’s generosity made it possible to purchase reading chairs, a new rug, a book and display area for Andover historic items, rebound old volumes, spruced up the fireplace, replaced lighting, refurbished historic paintings and capital improvements to the exterior of the building. As a tribute to the many contributions and interests of Alice Yeomans Moe Campbell, Andover Public Library has received a $14,839 grant from the Myron Parker Yeomans/Edward Myron Yeomans Family Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving to support two projects.

“The Andover Public Library is a thriving part of our community,” said Julie Victoria, Library Board member, “We’ve been able to keep this gem shining inside and out in part through grants from the Yeomans Family Fund at the Hartford Foundation of Public Giving.”

The first of these projects would allocate $9,839 to create a large outdoor mural along the back of the library building depicting some of Andover’s history about which Alice Yeomans Moe Campbell was so passionate. The Andover Library Board has commissioned an artist to develop a design to be reviewed by the board. Any additional funds necessary for the design and development of the mural is being raised by the library.

The remaining $5,000 from the grant will be used to purchase four new computers including the latest version of Microsoft Office, as well as two color laser printers.
