2018 Scholarship Reception Recap

On Wednesday, June 6, we held our annual Scholarship Recipient Reception at the Greater Hartford Arts Academy’s Theater for the Performing Arts to honor this year’s class of Hartford Foundation scholarship recipients.  Over 325 scholars, parents and donors gathered to celebrate with a reception and short program.

Dr. Robert J. Patterson, former Hartford Foundation scholarship recipient and current chair for the Department for African American Studies at Georgetown University, gave this year’s keynote address.  Dr. Patterson encouraged the high school seniors in attendance to be grateful for their blessings and to not be afraid to take on the world's biggest challenges.  He also took the opportunity to announce the creation of his own new scholarship fund. The Robert J. Patterson Scholarship Fund will help students seeking to major in African American Studies, the humanities or social justice.

Last year, the Hartford Foundation Scholarship Program awarded more than $1.45 million in scholarships to 625 students. These bright young scholars will make a difference in their communities and one day become leaders in business, philanthropy and academia. We hope that, like Dr. Patterson, they use their own opportunities to help create future opportunities for others.
