Click to Register (Email Header) (6).pngThe Hartford Foundation’s Latino Endowment Fund is a Giving Circle that works to address the challenges facing Latino residents and the organizations that serve them. Since 2003, this Giving Circle has awarded more than $150,000 in grants to organizations serving the Latino community, and the fund is valued at more than $470,000. This innovative fund is among the first of its kind in the U.S. 

How it works: 

  • Members attend educational programs on topics of interest and areas of need in the Latino community.
    Past topics include leadership training for Latino youth and nonprofit leaders, job skills training, and educational opportunities for English Language Learners.
     
  • At the final meeting of the year, members discuss specific grant proposals.
    The group then recommends an organization or program for a grant. Recent grants have been for approximately $20,000 each year.
     
  • Members make a contribution to the fund on an annual basis.
    A minimum donation amount of $365 is necessary to become a member of the giving circle. If you are 30 years of age or younger, there is a reduced membership fee of $150 for the year. We do, however, accept donations of any size from those who would like to support the fund. Contributions are tax deductible.

Marilda Gándara, former president and director of the Aetna Foundation, and Rosaida Rosario, consultant and former Hartford Foundation board member, founded the Latino Endowment Fund. The original and current members hope to inspire the Latino community—traditionally a generous people—to expand personal philanthropy by becoming long-term endowment donors through this fund.’
